A successful life is largely dependent on one’s health. Both mental and physical health issues can worsen the quality of life. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and enough sleep are necessary to keep one’s health in check. The fast-paced world, supported by advances in science and technology, has substantially increased people’s lethargy, which has diminished basic physical activity movements. This resulted in the emergence of new health issues that pose a threat to society. People are turning to gyms for paid services as their health awareness has grown. Also people have started using various fitness tracking devices to monitor their health parameters However, some of the biggest obstacles to be taken into account are things like laziness-induced resistance to continuing exercise, the expense of hiring personal trainers at the gym, and the lack of physiotherapists who can offer appropriate instruction on how to perform the exercises. These problems can be solved by artificial intelligence. Accurate pose estimation is essential for coaching, injury prevention, and sports statistics. Pose estimation is also critical in the analysis and development of athlete performance for posture estimation-based human activity recognition. The sports and wellness vertical of CHI will collaborate with researchers from various departments, including the Sports Science Center, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, and Dietetics, to create an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can tackle complex health issues in society. PROJECT ELEVATE in this vertical aims to explore research areas in pose estimation. This endeavor also seeks to create a cost-effective system by using inexpensive RGB cameras rather than expensive RGBD cameras.
